When your Korea trip falls on a weekend or public holiday, check whether places are open and reachable before adding more stops. During major holidays such as Seollal and Chuseok, transport and business hours can change, so prepare bookings, alternatives and a flexible area plan.
Check the holiday type and date first
Some Korean holidays fall on fixed dates, while Seollal and Chuseok follow the lunar calendar. After choosing your dates, use official holiday information and the travel calendar to check closures, events and busy periods. Travel can be heavy on the days around a holiday too.
Assume each attraction has its own closure rule
Banks, post offices and government offices often close on weekends and public holidays, while palaces, museums, department stores and tourist facilities may follow separate schedules. Check each official page for Monday closures, holiday opening and holiday-day closures.
Book transport and popular entries early
During long weekends, KTX, express buses, domestic flights and popular attractions can fill quickly. Secure intercity transport first, then save timed-entry and restaurant bookings with their cancellation terms. If tickets disappear, keep a same-area itinerary as a backup.
Build the day around one area
Roads, transfer stations and famous sights can be crowded on weekends. Pair a booked morning attraction with a walkable market, café or park in the afternoon. Seeing one area slowly is usually easier than crossing the city several times.
Make a plan B that can start immediately
If the first place is closed or fully booked, switch to a nearby museum, market, riverside walk or mall with a different operating pattern. Pair an indoor and outdoor option, and a booked place with a walk-in place, to handle weather and crowds.
Recheck the day before and at the entrance
Hours, events and transport can change by date or facility. Recheck the official site and map the day before, then follow signs and notices on site. When asking 1330 or your hotel, give the place name and visit date for more useful help.
