Restaurant routines vary by table and venue. Use this as a first-visit order of checks, rather than assuming one Korean rule fits every place.
Read the menu, then mention party and restrictions
Check the printed, QR or wall menu. Ask about spice, allergies and dietary restrictions before ordering. Side dishes or water may be provided, but do not assume they are always free or refillable. Confirm menu and register prices.
Notice the call button and self-service signs
A table button can call staff for ordering, water or payment; otherwise make eye contact or say jeogiyo. Read signs for self-service water, side dishes and tray return. Leave a little time in busy periods.
Payment may happen at the counter
Many restaurants take payment at a counter after the meal, while others bring a terminal to the table. Ask to pay or use the bell. Foreign cards, cash and mobile payment vary; check before a large order and keep the receipt.
Tipping is not a default obligation
In ordinary restaurants, tipping is not part of the standard payment flow. A simple thank-you is enough. Check separately for booking fees, alcohol, extras, delivery or takeaway conditions.
Share food and heat carefully
Use serving spoons or tongs when provided, and take care around hot soup, grills and burners. Menu photos, a translation app and pointing are enough to communicate when words are limited.
