Museums and galleries in Korea are places where exhibitions and collections are cared for, not only photo stops. Check the operating information before you go, then follow the rules for bags, photography and movement so even a short visit can feel unhurried.
Check closing days and last admission first
Regular closing days, holiday schedules, special exhibitions and last admission times vary by institution. A permanent gallery that looks free may sit beside a special exhibition requiring a ticket or reservation. Use the institution’s official website for the date of your visit rather than relying only on a map app’s hours.
Separate timed exhibitions from walk-in galleries
Popular special exhibitions, immersive shows and guided programmes may require a time slot. Check date, time, number of visitors and cancellation terms, and keep the mobile ticket or booking number ready. Arriving very early does not guarantee early entry, so plan a café or rest stop nearby instead of rushing.
Handle large bags and umbrellas at the entrance
A large backpack, suitcase or wet umbrella can block views or create risk around works. Ask about lockers and coat checks, then confirm their size and closing time. Keep valuables and passports with you rather than assuming the institution’s storage policy covers them.
Read photography rules beside each work
Do not assume one rule covers every room. Check signs about photography, flash, tripods, selfie sticks, video and commercial use. Even where photos are allowed, avoid blocking other visitors and reduce shutter sounds and calls in quiet rooms. Review the institution’s copyright and sharing guidance before posting online.
Divide the route instead of trying to see everything
Large museums are difficult to finish in one visit. Choose two or three priorities from the map, then note toilets, seating and cafés. Read title, date, material and provenance first, and spend longer only where your interest grows. Before the gift shop, check your next transport and walking time.
