Shopping for cosmetics in Korea can be fun, and it is easier to enjoy when you also consider your skin, suitcase and return options.
Start with your skin and travel conditions
Korean beauty stores offer a lot of choice, but a trip is not the best time to start many new products at once. If you react to fragrance or particular ingredients, read the full list and delay testing when your skin feels sensitive.
Use testers hygienically and follow store rules
Follow the store’s guidance when testers are available. Try a small amount on an area such as the back of your hand, use shared tools cleanly, and be especially careful about hygiene near eyes and lips.
Photograph the label, size and date information
Look beyond the product name: check size, expiry or period-after-opening mark, ingredient list and manufacturing or sales information. For gifts, photograph the language label, shade and number so it is easy to identify later.
Count what you will use before choosing a bundle
Before buying a discounted multi-pack, consider suitcase space and expiry. Choose one item when it is new to you, and take samples only when you know who will use them and in what conditions.
Keep returns and tax-refund records separate
Receipts, packaging condition, gifts and payment records can matter for an exchange or return. If you plan a tax refund, follow the store’s instructions and departure process, and keep receipts and passport-related records together.
Check cabin baggage and home-country rules before flying
Liquids and gels can affect cabin-baggage rules and checked-bag packing. Rules on ingredients, quantity and declarations may also apply when you return home, so check your airline and customs’ current guidance before buying.
