Waste can feel minor on a trip, but collection rules differ by place. This is a calm checklist for a short stay, not a replacement for local instructions.
Do not expect a bin everywhere
Street and station bins are not always easy to find. Carry a small bag, then use the bin offered by a café, convenience store, attraction or your accommodation. Do not leave waste in public space or use another shop’s bin without permission.
Read the accommodation’s system first
Hotels and guesthouses have different arrangements. Check the room notice, floor recycling area and checkout message. In self-catering or longer stays, general waste, recycling, food waste and collection days can vary by district.
Empty containers and follow the label
Empty liquids and food from bottles, cans and packaging. Recycling can be separated by paper, metal, glass, plastic and vinyl, but visitors do not need to memorise every local rule: follow the bin’s pictures and the host’s instructions.
Treat food separately
Food and soup can have a separate collection method. If you are cooking or staying longer, ask the host about bones, shells and other items rather than guessing. At restaurants, ask staff instead of disposing of leftovers outside.
Carry it out from crowded or natural places
Parks and events may have few bins or temporary limits. Keep a small bag and dispose of it later at an appropriate point.
